about
although i did not see the release of this song happening this year, i’m thankful for moments like these, when a certain feeling presents itself: to me it’s an important reminder to let go when moved to.
i last performed this song at sofar sounds november 2017 along with a poem I wrote for mi abuela (rest). although those two pieces were written at different times in my life, they’re apart of the same fabric. and though i can’t share one without the other, i made a personal decision to keep my abuelita’s poem in written form and left the second half up for listening. this song is called ‘untitled. rio’ it’s a song i wrote while reflecting and thinking about the dynamics between my mother and i and the way i’d like to show life to my own someday, the second verse is something i wrote a while back that has nothing to do with the thought but the affirmation made its way onto the song anyway. the production behind this started off with the idea of contacting a few of my favorite musicians to freestyle whether it be through instrument or voice to a melody i would provide—my intial intention for this song was for it to become a 10+ min stream of consciousness, but as always, the song molds itself and decides when it’s done and this one made it at the three minute mark. love to the giants that lent their talents to this record:
lyrics
One day I'll have a daughter
Show her the type of magic you may make when you mix light and water
And try to be a better mother than mama ever was
Even though it was different
I will tell her it was love (cause it was)
I was carved out of stone
I will carve my newborn out of poems and orchids
A flask full of ocean
A kiss on the forehead
So when I pass away
The sun will hold the scripture
I know you'll walk with grace
And I know you'll take it with you
So when it rains
Let that water feel you
When it rains
Let that water reveal you
And if you need the rain to conceal you
It will too
Either you dance with water or let the water dance within
I love you
Proven to be more than a statement
Love has many faces and recycled phases
Unconditional under so many conditions
It's best you know time spent is never wasted
So breathe
It's never wasted so breathe (x2)
Oh the dreams they always fade then they come right back like yesterday (x2)
Some may call it magic
We just call it passion
Some may call it abstract
How beautiful is the soul when it dances
When you're kind to yourself
Despite all that happened
Despite all that happened
Some may call it magic
We just call it water
Some may call it abstract but everything's in order
Moon glow
Sun shine
Rain cry
Wind blow
3 little birds sat on my window
3 little birds got word from earth
Said no fear getting dirty cause you come from dirt
Some may say I fell off
I say I flew
Some don't like the movement
At least I move
So I fly, I fly, I fly
And then I cry, I cry, away
Into the moon
See the healing takes time
And I know I'll be fine
I'll see you soon
